Sex Machines Museum

Pain, pleasure, and porn under one roof.

The only one of its kind in the world, the Sex Machines Museum contains more than 300 exhibits spread over three floors. It is the largest collection of sex devices held under one roof.

The museum describes itself as “an exposition of mechanical erotic appliances, the purpose of which is to bring pleasure and allow extraordinary and unusual positions during intercourse.” Carefully chosen objects are arranged into displays divided by age (there are erotic objects dating back to the 16th century), purpose (body harnesses and copulation tables, erotic clothing, and “absolute domination” items) and even historical importance (such as shoes worn by ancient Greek prostitutes)

Some of the most rare devices require a bit of imagination and an open mind to truly understand – such as a “throne chair” with a peep hole to allow a close up view and a golden shower experience and an early 1900s anti-masturbation device that would alert parents if their child had an erection.

The collection of stimulation devices and vibrators is particularly large, and there are many examples of anti-masturbation devices and chastity belts from the 1500s, including some with clawed teeth. The museum also contains an art gallery focusing mostly on SMM, as well as a small theater where some of the world’s earliest pornographic films are constantly playing.

Not a museum for the weak of heart or the easily shocked, the Sex Machines Museum actually received lots of criticism from local authorities when it opened – which, of course, contributed to its popularity.
